Room makeover, a before & after: I could really use a back rub, too...please

I mentioned last week that I finally got around to putting my deck together for the summer... good thing, since pretty soon I'd have to skip the whole thing and hang the Christmas lights out there instead.

I wrote that I rearranged the furniture, much like you would do in an interior room, creating a focal point (the bench) and giving the room some definition (with the potted trees).

This week I finally put out the soft things: the pillows, tablecloth and flowers, the stuff that beckons you to come on out and take a seat....

...but first, would you mind grabbing me a cocktail...maybe a little bowl of chips...my slippers...ooh, a magazine...heck, my pajamas...?

And your patio is so pretty!

Oh, that looks so beautiful! We have a a deck attached to a large three season porch, but summers are so hot in St. Louis, we don't get out there nearly as much as we would like to. Great blog, btw. Love your before and after photos!

I am new to your blog and like your redseigns. I love the patio and want some of those trees. I would love to be sitting at that table. It is amazing how fabric makes something look so warm.

Can this please be my patio? What kind of trees are in the pots? I'm very impressed!

Hi Kylie: A few people have asked about the trees, and I have to be honest, I'm not sure!

I picked them up a few years ago (there are two kinds there) at either Lowes or Home Depot. They were not much bigger then. They are evergreens, along the line of arborvitae. They might even be arborvitae.

I would just check with a nursery for something that won't get very tall and is OK potted.

It's nice to see green on the deck in the winter, too...

Wow - it's amazing to see what a few pillow and a table cloth will do. Do you just take them in every night or is the fabric something that can withstand the dew?

I love the look of a soft patio! What a way to extend the inside to outdoors----I think you just added some square footage :)!

Hi Jen:

The pillows are made for the outdoors, so they stay out. The tablecloth usually comes in....unless I forget...then it stays out.

Thanks!
Mary
