Have you noticed lately the trend toward bold graphics in upholstery fabrics, dishes, sheets, pillows and throw blankets?
You can spot them all over the place: large, stylized flowers or geometric shapes with generous spaces between them (like the chair by Pottery Barn above.)
I'm loving it for two reasons:
One, it's so darn pretty and fresh.
Two, it's easy to get the look by incorporating a few pieces into a room.
You can add a rug or a few throw pillows for an updated look without replacing everything.
A few examples: This indoor/outdoor rug by Linens n' Things:
And this rug by CB2:
And these pillows, this handmade one available on Etsy, below, and the one below that by Pier 1.
I wouldn't go with something this dramatic on a big piece, like a sofa, because it's not easy to change the look later if you want. And we all know, we're going to want to change the look...

I love these too! Ikea always does a great job with the "big" pattern as well!
I love today's patterns out there for fabric, too. I am thinking of the patterns that have gone out of style, circa 1970 for example. I hope these never go out of style! They're so adorable!
There are a lot of fun bolder scale fabrics to choose from these days! Makes our old stuff look a bit wimpy!
Happy day,
Melissa
i love Amy Butler's big stuff, I covered a real oldie vintage Australian chair and then left it in a sunny spot to age the fabric a bit...I'm sooooo pleased with the result, the big patterns sure have their place
GORGEOUS! Those are totally my style. I saw that chair at PB the other day and fell in love. I really like the other stuff you posted too. Cute, cute, cute!
I would love a really boldly-patterned chair like that, only I'm so afraid I'd get sick of it. I'm going to have to be a wimp and stick with pillows for now!
Oh I totally LOVE the chair! I really like the bold colors so much...very Ikea!
Loving your blog!!
These patterns are fun and they have such a warm, homey feeling.
